The Nouvel Boys’ Varsity Golf Team this year has had to deal with some weather issues but they definitely did not let that hold them back. Senior captains this year are James Fabiano and Hugh LeFevere and they have done a good job at leading their team throughout the season. There are ten people on the team, but only five of them attend the tournaments. The top five on the team, in ranked order, are Nick Ludka, James Fabiano, Hugh LeFevere, Matt Dijak, and Stone Kelly. They have only had four tournaments due to the awful weather we have had this spring. Most of the tournaments are Divison 1, but our boys do quite well in them which shows how talented they are! The team is coached by Mr. Drumhiller and Mr. Dijak who do a good job at teaching the boys certain tactics and skills. On May 14th the team attended County’s in which they received 2nd place. Some of the team that’s attended were Hemlock, St. Charles, Valley Lutheren, Chesaning, Freeland, and Heritage, who placed 1st. Next Thursday, May 22nd, the boys will have their Districts at Pine River. Good luck boys and congrats on a great season so far!

Softball has had a thrilling season so far, despite having many cancellations and not a lot of wins. Just this past week, they experienced the ups and downs of an unusual season. First suffering a loss in a hard fought game, tying at 7 against Owosso and losing in extra innings, and then, an exciting victory over Carollton including a fist high school career homerun by Katie Buchalski. They are still looking forward however, and are excited to play Merrill, Caro, and Cass City in their tournament at Caro this Saturday. Though they may be some very tough teams, the softball team is confident that they will come away with a win or two.

Despite the rather unfavorable weather this season, the boys’ varsity baseball team has come out with some wins against Hemlock, Arthur Hill, Laker, Coleman, and Breckenridge this season. According to junior Kent Martin, the intermixing of the JV and varsity baseball is working out nicely. Although no juniors or seniors have moved down, a few JV players including Aaron Dise, Matt Bartels, Ricky Koester, and Alex Dwan are occasionally moved up to varsity when JV does not have a game. This past Saturday May 10th, the boys’ played in a tournament against Coleman, Breckenridge, and Swan Valley. The varsity baseball team pulled through with wins in their first two games against Coleman and Breckenridge. During the Breckenridge game, junior Alex Millhisler had 19 strikeouts out of 21 outs! Nice job Alex! Although the boys lost to Swan Valley in the tournament championship, they feel confident about the remainder of their season. This Saturday, the boys have a tournament in Durand. Good luck boys! We hope you have even more success this weekend! Looking into next week, the boys have a match up against Freeland on Tuesday and Meridian on Thursday.

Half way through the regular season, the girl’s varsity soccer team has an even record. Despite the many cancelations in games, the girls are perseverant and working hard. Althoughtheir first two games resulted in two mercies, the girls bounced back at a win 5-0 win against Saginaw Valley Lutheran at Valley Lutheran High school. Two days after the Valley game, our ladies lost to Midland Dow. Midland Dow’s girls soccer program is always very talented and successful, so 2-0 is not too bad of a loss. Two game cancellations later leave our girls playing Lansing Christian @ Lansing Christian. This is a big rivalry since last year; the girls played Lansing Christian @ Lansing Christian for the regional championship and lost by 1 goal. This year we destroyed the remaining memory of last year and won 5-1. The latest win at Freeland leaves the girls on a good streak that they need to continue throughout the rest of the regular season and into the playoffs.
