Each year, Lake Superior State posts the overused phrases and words they think should be banned from ever being said again. In honor of this, we decieded to post our own words that have gone through Nouvel in 2012… And do not need to continue into 2013.

YOLO – You Only Live Once – used as a term to tell someone said thing that is being done is somewhat scary but it is worth the risk. “Should I skip school or not? YOLO”

Grub – Verb – to eat excessively in one sitting; to feast; “do you want to go grub at B-Dubs?”

Keep calm and… – an annoying saying that is used wrongly many times, to tell people not to worry and do the word that it is followed by. “Keep calm and graduate”

Celebrity couples name combination – ex. Brangleina, Kimye. They are dumb and pointless, just use their real names!

You mad bro? –  to intimidatingly ask someone if they are angry because of something you said to hurt that persons feelings. “Your sister is hot, You mad bro?”

I die (ed) (ing) – to express laughter to the fullest extent. “oh my gosh when I saw her fall, I died!!”

Cray – another word for crazy, enthusiastic, mentally deranged. “that girl is cray.”

Douces – to say goodbye, referring to the two fingers put up when saying “Peace” “Yo bro I gotta go, douces.”

Fail – to not succeed at something, usually proceeded by epic, to horribly not accomplish the goal you were trying to do. “That was an epic fail.”

All hockey words – ex. Chel, waterbotski, celly, bender, snitz. Normal words that are changed to sound cool but they really are not. “bro, I was playing chel and I got this sick waterbotski because I stole it from this bender right before our goalie snitzed it so I went and did a huge celly.”

Swag – to show coolness, to be cool, to have nice things and good clothing, Nick Hammis. “yo bro you got some real swag going right now.”

Speaking symbols ex. # (Hashtag) >(Greater than) – saying something that is on a social network to express something. “Wow this slurpee is Greater than sign everything right now.”
