October is known nationally as Breast Cancer awareness month, but here at Nouvel, its known for remembering those who are battling, or have battled any form of cancer. This year, NCC celebrates its Pink Week October 14th-18th.
Our sports teams participate in the pink events by wearing pink socks and pink accessories for their Games to Remember, as well as decals that include the names of those being honored and remembered. Tennis pink night is 10/9, which is also senior night. Thursday night is a pink out for the JV football team as they play Bullock Creek. Volleyball will host its Pink night on the 16th which will also be their last home game and Senior night. Varsity football will close out the events with the 10th annual “Game to Remember”, played on Friday, October 18th.
Monday, October 14th begins the Pink Week activities in the halls of NCC, sponsored by the NCC Public Relations class. Monday, Ribbon locker tags will be available for Students/Staff to honor a loved one battling cancer. The next day, spin the prize wheel for a $1 during lunches to try and win multiple prizes. Wednesday will be a pay to wear jeans or sweats. We have an NCC alumni family– Richard Martin, father of Kali Martin (’09), Kelsey Martin (’11) and Kent Martin (’15)– currently battling cancer, so all proceeds from this day will go to help with travel and other treatment related expenses. There will also be prayers provided to teachers and read at the end of the day that day will focus on seeking God’s wisdom, comfort and blessings for all those battling all forms of cancer.
At lunch on Thursday, pink desserts will be sold for a dollar, and on n Friday on we will have an all-out pink spirit day. There will also be an end of the day assembly that day to award a prize for the most pink outfit, as well as wrap up all of our Pink activities.
