Lent

Lent starts today on February 14th and ends on March 28th of 2024. It’s an important time period where Christians don’t eat meat on Wednesdays and Fridays in honor of Jesus’ sacrifice to us. There were many activities and events that revolved around the reason for the Lenten season in NCCHS. Many that included the Catholic Relief Services Rice Bowl lunch that took place in the cafeteria during the school lunches. Students or other staff would be given food samples and it only costs .25 cents for one sample. The money goes as a donation for the organization with different types of food from around the world being presented to several other schools for Lent. Fish Fry is also open from February 15th to the end of the Lenten Season to celebrate Lent as it takes place in NCCE for several years from 4:30-7pm as a fundraiser towards Lent. Lent is not only about avoiding meat, but a time where you give up one thing for the season. This is an example of when Jesus had to not get tempted by other things from the snake. In Lent, you pick anything that tempts you and you try to avoid it as Jesus did. Where the four candles of Lent have different colors to one being pink while the rest are purple known as the Lenten Triad. This is because it is how Jesus spent fasting for 40 days in the desert and the four represent some part of the Lent calendar. As it is Jesus resisting temptation from the snake and fasting true to his word of God to learn to not be tempted.
