Track

The 2023 boys and girls track seasons have come with many personal records improved times and many wins but their seasons are coming to an end soon. It has been a great year all around for the boys, and the girls who have a very small team. Last week, there were some very strong personal performances in the Saginaw County Track and Field Championships. Junior Tristen Elizalde placed 8th in both the 100 meter and 200 meter dash. The boys team also took tenth place in both of 4×100 and 4×200 races, Junior Brandon Murphy took 6th place in the long jump, and Senior Camille Wardin placed 10th in the girls discus competition.

The teams are set to compete in Regionals this weekend at Breckenridge High School. Aiden Brown, who runs the 100 meter dash, 200 meter dash, and the 4×1 relay says that he is more than ready to compete and says that the team is very confident they will have many qualifiers for the state tournament. Individuals who place with a qualified state time or in the top two for the event, will compete in the state competition on June 3rd.

Soccer

The Varsity Soccer team continues to do well with a record of 11-3-1. The ladies recently took on Millington for Senior night. Seniors Emilee Rosenberg and Lydia Jacobs both paved the way for a Nouvel 8-0 victory scoring three goals each. This followed a series of Panther victories against Ithaca and Hemlock, as well as a tie with cross town rival, Valley Lutheran. On 05/19 the girls had a hard fought loss to Midland High with a score of 3-1. They are looking to bounce back as District play begins Thursday, May 25th.

Clay Shooting

This year the Nouvel Catholic Central Trap Shooting team combined with Freeland. At the end of their third week they were able to maintain their 3rd place standing in their conference and 4th out of 22 teams nationally.

“So far the season is going great” says Senior Ryan McDonald, “I am warming up after a year and hopefully will do better at nationals this year.”

This year the trap shooting national competition will be taking place from July 5-9 in Mason Michigan. They will be competing against over 20 different teams hoping to keep their place or move up. The team takes their practices seriously and are showing improvements in each of their competitions.
