Lent

Jacob Grigg 17’

What is lent and why do we celebrate it? The Lenten season is a time when many Christians observe a period of fasting, repentance, moderation, self-denial and spiritual discipline. The purpose is to set aside time for reflection on Jesus Christ – his suffering and his sacrifice, his life, death, burial and resurrection. The church season is celebrated by periods of fasting, repentance, and discipline. Children of ages 14 and above are should abstain from meat on holy days, and Fridays, usually replaced with fish. The usual color for Lenten season is purple which will be visible throughout the church. Christians usually give up something of pleasure. For some that might be chocolate or food they love. It also could be a specific action like going the movies. Lent is a time to forget the materialistic things in the world and focus on the spiritual aspect of life.
