Sister Ann Fest

On Monday April 15th, a celebration of Sister Ann deGuise’s 50th year as a Franciscan nun was commemorated. Sister Ann has been the principal of St Thomas Aquinas for the past 19 years and was a teacher two years before that. Sister Ann felt that people were “going over the top,” but that did not stop celebrators flocking to the Temple Theatre to show her their thanks in their own unique way. The evening opened with the Nouvel Honor Guard bringing in the Spirit Cross—but that wasn’t the only way Nouvel participated. The Nouvel Choir sang the “Our Father” and “Jubilate Deo” with the help of the St Thomas Bell Choir. The Drama Department of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat also made an appearance performing their first two big company numbers. They even remixed their smash hit “Go Go Joseph” into “Go Go Sister.” Nouvel’s own Nina Solis also helped by joining the Filipino Community’s musical presentation of the story of Genesis. The staff of St Thomas performed a Sister Act medley including the song “Ave Maria” , and the children of St. Thomas made a powerful appearance with their thank you song to Sister Ann. And what event would be complete without an old fashioned flashmob with the song, “I am a Christian?” The event was a huge success and many people hope to come back and help celebrate Sister Ann’s next milestone Jubilee!
