On March 21st, the world will be celebrating World Down Syndrome Day! For those who are unfamiliar with Down Syndrome, it is a genetic disorder where there is an error in cell division resulting in 3 copies of chromosome 21. On this day, a common way of showing support and awareness for those who have Down Syndrome is by wearing crazy or mismatched socks. With this in mind, PAWS has organized the “Socks for Your PAWS” event so that Nouvel could also participate in this day.

While wearing mismatched socks may seem random when talking about Down Syndrome, there is a reason why mismatched socks are worn on this day. It has been said that socks look a lot like chromosomes and when actually looking at the karyotype (the number and visual display of chromosomes in a cell) of someone with Down Syndrome, it looks very similar to mismatched socks. For this reason, it has become a widespread tradition to wear mismatched socks on World Down Syndrome Day! Show your support and join Nouvel and the world in World Down Syndrome Day by rocking your socks!
