Summer unfortunately came to an end two weeks ago. Many people say it was their best one yet; this includes senior Kaylin Minnec, who spent a large amount of her summer studying in Chicago.

Q: What exactly did you go to Chicago for?

A: I went to Chicago to attend a high school summer institute at Columbia College. I stayed in the dorms and took two classes, fashion trends and interior spaces, which I get college credit for.

Q: How long were you there?

A: I was there for three weeks in July.

Q: What was the most interesting/ fun thing you were able to create?

A: For my fashion trends class we studied fashion forecasting and predicting future trends for spring/summer 2016. We got to make an actual magazine, and we created all the content with what we came up with and pictures we shot around the city of women wearing what we predicted. I did about 80% of the writing which was my favorite part.

Q: What is your favorite memory from your time there?

A: My favorite memory was every day I got to spend with the amazing friends I made. We still talk almost every day and plan on living together next year. Everyone was so creative and talented and welcoming. I also liked exploring the Gold Coast with my fashion trends class, which is my favorite neighborhood in Chicago.

Q: Is fashion design something you see as a future career?

A: Fashion business is what I plan to major in, with journalism as a minor. They’re both something I’m really passionate about and interested in, and combine my two favorite things.

Q: Who is (are) your favorite designer(s)?

A: My favorite designers are Hedi Slimane, Raf Simons, and Clare Waight

Keller.
