It’s the season we have all been waiting for, winter sports!

Here is a brief preview of all winter sports teams at Nouvel.

Girls Basketball: After coming off a state championship last year, the girls are back and expecting nothing less this year. The girls are welcoming a new coach, Sean Williams, as he brings great energy and a “can do” attitude to the program. Coach Williams is a familiar face for some Nouvel students, as he was the JV Boys basketball assistant coach last year. Retuning players from last years team include: Laurel Jacqmain (Jr.), Nicole Buckingham (Sr.), Savannah Himmelein (Sr.), Alex Joynt (Sr.), Nicole Charlton (Jr.), Maddie Graham (Jr.), and Charley Hengesbach (Soph.). Tryouts begin Monday November 10th through Wednesday the 13th. With the experience of the returning players, we are expecting great things out of this team as always.

Pom-Pon:  The back to back state champs are once again returning for greatness this winter. Coaches Maddie Lemaine and Ashley Grendrske are leading the girls for their 3rd year now. Returning pommers include Kaylee Pilz (Sr.), Brianna Bivins (Jr.), Sarah Ehlman (Jr.), Morgan Velez (Jr.), Brittany Jurgens (Jr.), Alexa Qright (Jr.), Sadie Benjamin (Jr.), Elizabeth McConnell (Jr.),  and Savannah Teneyuque (Jr.). Practice and preparation for the competitive season begins Monday November 10th.

Wrestling:  The boys wrestling team has a new coach this year, Coach Marc Reder. The boys have some wrestlers coming back this year, and some young talent that could help them throughout the year. Returners include: Joe Mott (Sr.), Kane Bourbina (Jr.), Joe Moskal (Jr.), Eric Gosen (Jr.), Matt Sullivan (Soph.), and Connor Lipinski (Soph.). The team is once again pretty young this year, and Joe Mott will have a big leadership role being the only senior on the squad.

Hockey:  Freeland, Nouvel and Valley Lutheran are once again combining to make one hockey team. They are a well balanced team and each school offers much talent and promise. Ron Miller is still coaching and his returning players from Nouvel are: Zach Komorowski (Sr.), Cam Cianek (Sr.), Robi Stuart (Soph.), and Ricky Koester (Soph.). The team is very competitive and they are looking to have a fun year. They would greatly appreciate a student section to cheer them on, so come out and support!

Boys Basketball:  The boys basketball team fell in the district finals last year to Hemlock, and are back looking for redemption. Second year coach, Joe Jacobs, is back and very excited for the upcoming season Last years team was senior heavy, so many underclassman will have to step up this year. Returning players from last years team are: Grant Hoffman (Sr.), Carlos Diola (Sr.), Nathan Charlton (Sr.), Donyea Freeman (Sr.), and Mitch Morley (Jr.). Tryouts begin Monday November 17th for all levels. Make sure to come out and support the boys this season!
