On October 5, NCC alumni James Murtha suffered a mountain biking accident in Colorado.  James fractured his neck at C3, C4 and C5. He is currently not able to move his arms or legs, but does however have some feeling in limited parts of his body making this an incomplete spinal cord injury. On the night of the injury he was taken for emergency surgery to relieve the pressure on his spinal cord. He initially was breathing on his own, but later in the week needed to be placed on a ventilator (life support). He has not suffered any brain injury, was awake and alert and in good spirits right up until the time he was placed on the ventilator, and has since been in and out of consciousness. James and the Murtha family is requesting prayers, thoughts and good feelings sent their way as they face the many challenges ahead.

While at NCC, James was involved in Varsity Wrestling, Varsity Football, multiple theater productions, Choir, SADD, and was also a member of the famed “Trinity”. The Trinity was comprised of James, (and fellow ’08 grads) Liz Irish, and Nick Awrey. Together they were alter servers at every mass for approximately two years.
