Video Game Spotlight: Yo-Kai Watch Blasters Review

Yo-Kai Watch Blasters is a spin off of the Yo-kai Watch Series. It is one of the most fun settings in the franchise as it takes place entirely in the Yo-kai side of the world, with the game having a grand total of 4 humans in it. The game focuses on the titular Blasters who are an organization that help other Yo-kai. The main group the game focuses on is given the nickname of “Bottom of the Barrel Blasters” due to them being failures in terms of Blasters. The organization of a whole is a parody of the Ghostbusters since they are defeating Yo-kai which are functionally ghosts. The gameplay is a semi top down “beat ’em up” for lack of a better term, the only game with similar gameplay is another series by the same developers. The story is quite fun and they use creative methods to explain why bosses are being reused from previous games, and their new bosses are really funny. Tattleterror and Mass Mutterer are basically jacked version of Tattletell and Manjimutt, who are very weak Yo-kai. The main villain is a kaiju version of one of the main characters. This game does have a couple problems however. This is not a problem earlier on but it becomes prevalent in post game. The AI for the teammate is very, very stupid. This isn’t too bad in early missions but gets very bad when you have to dodge tough attacks the healer just stands in an explosion and is barely healing. It is also very annoying to recruit new Yo-kai as most are completely random. Luckily due to promotional stuff on toys that you can just look up, a ton of Yo-kai get specific coins that make them way easier to get, even legendary Yo-kai like Gilgaros are obtainable with this method. Despite its flaws, I overall enjoy playing this game, however those flaws bite hard when you want to get somewhere.
