A few highlights:

5. Although our amazing principal Mrs. Messing decided to leave the school this year after Christmas break, Nouvel was excited to welcome Mrs. Colucci, who had retired just last year after being a long time math teacher, as our interim principal. Just recently, it was announced that Mr. Timothy Marciniak, will be joining us next fall.

4. Prom this year was a blast and students had a great time. To kick off the night, the students attended mass at Holy Spirit. After mass, they went over to Horizons to enjoy a delicious dinner of chicken florentine and baked ziti pasta. After dinner, students were able to dance and enjoy time with friends. Even a couple of the staff member chaperones were seen on the dance floor! After the dance, students headed over to Stardust for post prom where everyone enjoyed unlimited arcade games, laser tag, bowling, and bumper cars.

3. On Thursday, May 11, the seniors final day, they brought in goats as part of their prank. Walking into the school and seeing goats in the courtyard was a surprise to everybody. Not only did the students like it, the staff loved it too. They were able to go out into the courtyard and interact with the goats, including giving the goats some animal crackers as a little treat.

2. After a season of hard work and dedication, varsity coach Mike Kessler and his team pulled through and won Districts once again. Not only did they win Districts, they were also 8-0 in their TVC conference making them the TVC champions as well.

1. This year both the girls and the boys tennis teams were TVC champions! This past week, the girls tennis team also won regionals and are hoping to make it to States.

And a few low points:

5. It was announced just before Christmas break that Mrs. Messing would be leaving as the principal of Nouvel. Even in her short time here, Mrs. Messing made a huge impact on our school and was always willing and excited to help students achieve their goals. She was really supportive of all the students’ ideas and was excited to help make their ideas a reality.

4. Typically Oscars are hosted on a Friday evening where students are able to showcase their talents and perform in front of the school. Awards are also given out to the students who are nominated by the rest of the student body. This year, due to multiple conflicts, the event took place during the school day. We were still able to have Oscars, and students were still able to showcase their talents and perform, but it just wasn’t as much fun.

3. This year our Christmas break was shortened quite a bit. We are used to having a Christmas break that lasts about 2 weeks, while this year our break was shortened to barely a week and a half.

2. Now that the end of the year is here, the dress code has started to be pushed more and more on the students and the handbook is being reviewed. It has been stated by many that there needs to be changes in the dress code and that there have been problems with it all year. At the beginning of this year, the dress code was being enforced and they were trying to resolve the problems, but it didn’t last very long. Now there are conversations happening concerning all the issues, and plans are trying to be made with less than 2 weeks left in the year.

1. February 7, 2023, The high school received a threat that there was someone in the school with a gun. After receiving the call, the Saginaw Township police showed up in less than 2 minutes. To get into the school, they backed one of their cruisers into the gym doors. In doing so, they were able to sweep through the whole school and ensure everyone that there was no one with a gun and it was a hoax. It left everyone shaken, but also extremely thankful that the response was so quick and everyone was safe.
