FNV Hockey Update: The Boys are Buzzin’

The FNV Griffins are off to an absolutely incredible start this year! Through 9 games, the Griffins have compiled an 8-1 record. The top 3 scorers are senior captain Brendan Maly from Freeland with 26 points, junior assistant captain Liam Simerson from Nouvel with 21 points, and junior assistant captain Connor Dvorak from Freeland with 13 points. The defense is anchored by junior assistant captain Dylan Kingsbury from Nouvel, Freeland junior Brody Wheatley, and Nouvel freshman Brady Kingsbury, a new addition.

The last 3 games have been especially impressive for the Griffins. On Thursday, FNV defeated the Bay Area Thunder 9-3 powered by a hat trick from Liam Simerson. On Friday’ the Griffins pummeled the rival Tri-Valley Titans 7-0 with Brendan Maly totaling 1 goal and 3 assists. On the third night of a back-to back-to back, the FNV Griffins took on Division 1 opponent Macomb Dakota at home. In an absolutely huge game, the Griffins pulled out a thrilling 8-7 victory in overtime. This victory was highlighted by Brendan Maly’s four goals and two assists, and Freeland sophomore Chris Morgan’s game winning goal in OT.

In related news, defensemen Dylan and Brady Kingsbury were both ejected for fighting in the first period of Saturday night’s game and are also each suspended for one game. This incredible run has culminated in the FNV Griffins earning a number 10 ranking in Division 2! The Griffins look to continue their incredible run and increase their ranking even further Tuesday night when they take on Milford at 6:00 P.M. in Hartland.
