Black Hisory Month: St. Benedict the Moor

In honor of black history month, we decided to recognize and take a look at a black saint who was respected and deserves our greatest appreciation.

St. Benedict the Moor was an Italian Franciscan friar in Sicily who is venerated as a saint in the Catholic Church. St. Benedict was born of African slaves, but he was freed at birth and went on to do great things for others and Christ. He was known most for his charity and service to others. He was widely respected for his wide knowledge and understanding of scripture and the Catholic Church, and was often looked to by many for counseling and comforting. St. Benedict the Moor always had wise advice when people needed it most, and was always there for those who were lonely.

St. Benedict the Moor, pray for us.
