Ladies Basketball

Last Saturday, the Lady Panthers player the Yellow Jackets of Detroit Country Day at home. They were defeated 59-52 in a close match up. The held a lead in the first half until the closing seconds of the second quarter. The Yellow Jackets used the momentum going in to the second half to best the panthers. The girls continued on Tuesday the 10th against John Glenn at home. The panthers played John Glenn earlier in the year in Bay City, beating the Bobcats by one. Unfortunately, the team did not have the same results this time around at home. They were beat 38-28 in a tough home loss. This past Thursday, the team traveled to Goodrich to play one of the highest contested teams in Class B. The ladies trailed the Martians at halftime by 25. In the second half, the panthers outscored the Martians 27-22 to lose 62-42 in another hard loss. The team’s next game is against their rival in Class C, Reese Rockets on Tuesday, February 17th.

 

Boys Basketball

Matt Dijak ’15

Nouvel’s boy’s basketball team is 3-11. Many close games have resulted in disappointing losses, but the boys keep working hard and striving for their best. Their game against Garber ended with loss, although, they had an overwhelming 15 point win against USA as their most recent win. Senior guard Carlos Diola is extremely excited to be playing along side his brother Paolo Diola. Paolo is a sophomore who has been moved from JV to varsity after the injury of senior guard Grant Hoffman. Senior captain, Donyea Freeman had a serious knee injury against USA. The boys have 6 games left and their next one is away at Haslett. Junior Jason Russell says, “The wins that matter are in March for Districts and throughout the playoffs, we are building up for that”. Come out to cheer on and support the boys!

Hockey

Lauren Nowasatka ’16

The FNV Griffins have been keeping their season going with their home crowd supporting them the past four games. On Wednesday, January 21, 2015 the Griffins lost to the Mid-Michigan Storm of Gladwin; however, have picked up their record in their next few games to make an overall record of 4-10-3 for the 2014-2015 season. On Saturday, January 24, 2015 the team tied with Mt. Pleasant High School, 4-4, with sophomore Jordan Tafel in goal. Sadly, the Griffins lost to the Bay Area Thunder, 0-7, on Wednesday, January 28, 2015. The team had a comeback, though, on Saturday, January 31, 2015 against the Lapeer Lightning, winning 4-2. On Saturday, February 7, 2015 the Griffins will be playing Jenison High School at home, and will be facing the Swan Valley Titans again on Saturday, February 14, 2015. Make sure to come out and support your Griffins!

 

Wrestling

Taehlor Rapin ’16

Wrestling has their next team meet on Wednesday February the 4th in Oscoda. Then it is time to prepare for districts. Team districts is held on Wednesday February 11th at Michigan Lutheran Seminary, while individual districts are on Saturday February 14th. The wresting team is going into the post season with a positive attitude and they are all working hard everyday to prepare for districts.
