In a tradition started last year here at Nouvel Catholic Central we invite someone outstanding from the community to be our Grand Marshal. Last year Stan and Betty Krajkowski lead off our Homecoming parade. This year, we are honored to announce that our Grand Marshal’s are 18-month-old Emma Thompson and her older sister Maci Thompson. In March of 2014 Emma was diagnosed with Anaplastic Ependymoma, a rare type of brain cancer.
Emma is most definitely an extraordinary little girl. She has a Facebook page called “Praying for Emma” ran by her family. On this page you can view a plethora of pictures of Emma. The most remarkable aspect of these pictures is that in almost every single one of them you can see Emma’s smiling face. Through thick and thin, Emma goes through life with a beautiful smile on her face at only 18 months old. This Facebook page has a little over 2,000 likes and is growing each and every day.
Emma’s grandmother, Sue Thompson used to teach computer class here at Nouvel Catholic Central. Sue had three sons, Brian, Shaun (Emma’s father), and Trent. All three of them attended Nouvel, and both Brian and Sean went on to play football at The University of Michigan. They also had a sister, named Shannon Thompson. Shannon was killed in an accident in between her freshman and sophomore year of High School. Here at Nouvel, we have a scholarship award given to one freshman student each year who shows major leadership qualities and caring for others in her honor.
Emma truly is an inspiration for each and every one of us. Her smile has the power to light up so many people’s hearts. Considering she is only a child and has already been through so much just shows how much of a fighter she truly is, and that right there is insanely inspiring. God has so many wonderful things in store for this beautiful little girl.
