As the Boys Varsity Basketball Team’s season ended Friday night against Hemlock in the District Finals, there are a lot of positive things to take away from this season. A new energetic Coach Joe Jacobs showed a fresh coaching style, and helped promote games to encourage student attendance. On their way to the District Finals, the Panthers won games against formidable opponents Breckenridge and Merrill. In the team’s first game at Districts they opened up against Breckenridge with a 59-37 win. Then moved on to face Merrill which ended in a 54-17 lopsided victory in favor of the Panthers. Then came District Finals, and a chance to win the programs 15th District title. Going into halftime Hemlock held a 29-18 lead. Nouvel pulled within 6 during the 3rd Quarter, however the Huskies took control shortly after, and had no intentions of giving up the lead.  Coach Jacobs had this to say after the loss. “We really haven’t played in an environment like this before. They were nervous. I was nervous. Hemlock was probably nervous. We came out early just to shoot around and get used to it and watch the people coming in.” Nouvel finishes with a 13-10 record, however a bright future for Nouvel Basketball is too come.
