Wrestling Update

The wrestling team started up their season with the Louis Socier Memorial Invitational in Pinconning with junior Joe Mott taking 3rd and senior Austin Hughes taking 1st for the fourth year in a row. Sophomore David Trudell and Austin Hughes both took 1st place at the Carrollton Quad the following week. At the Hemlock Invitational, Austin Hughes again takes 1st place in his weight class and Joe Mott took 5th place in his. Senior Austin Hughes is entering his last year of wrestling here at Nouvel and expectations are high. He has made it to States each year finishing 5th 3rd and 2nd, and hopes to come out on top this year.

1.What are your expectations heading into your senior year of wrestling?

I hope to go undefeated during the regular and post seasons and win my first state championship.

2.How do you feel you have improved since last year?

I think that I worked hard during the off season and got stronger, and my technique has also gotten better.

3.Are you wrestling in the same weight class as last year?

Last year I competed at 145. This year I’m starting at 160 then dropping down

4. How do you feel about your team as a whole this season?

We are a younger team with me being the only senior, but we have a lot of potential.
