Our boys varsity basketball team is off to a good start. The Panthers played the Bay City Central Wolves last Monday and won 51-36. They were in control the whole game, outscoring the Wolves 13-0 in the first quarter alone. Senior Nate Garpiel led the Panthers this game scoring 21 points, including five 3 pointers. Senior Chris Rybinski dominated the paint with 10 points and 10 rebounds. The Panthers then played Bishop Foley of Madison Heights on Friday. Senior Garrett Graham had a team high of 15 points and 7 rebounds. Even though they had a height disadvantage against Bishop Foley they still came out on top. The next day in Detroit, they played Loyala High School and the competition got harder. Unlike the Bay City Central game, the Panthers were not in control of the paint against the Bulldogs of Loyola. Garrett Graham had 14 points, Chris Rybinksi had 9 points, and senior Ryan Sullivan had five steal and six rebounds. “Even though we lost we still had a better game against them then last year’s loss by 30,” said senior James Fabiano. “We are all very excited for this season.” Garrett Graham says, “Our win against Bishop Foley shows that we have what it takes to make a run in playoffs this year.” With a new head coach, Joe Jacobs, the Panthers seem confident and are ready to prove that Nouvel Basketball is back on track.
