Video Game Spotlight: F-Zero GX

By B. Barlow (’25)

For the video game spotlight, I’ll talk about a game I’ve been meaning to give a spotlight to for a while. F-Zero GX for the Gamecube, a guy uniquely utilizes technology from a collaboration between Nintendo, Sega and Namco. It is a pretty unique racing game, it is probably one of the fastest racing games I have ever played, with all the racers being in hovercrafts in a sci-fi setting. There are no items only a boost meter you have to be weary of since when you lose it all, you explode and are disqualified from the grand prix if you are in one. You can also do spin attacks which can also take a chunk of your boost away. This game has a fun cast of characters, they very much shine in the game’s cutscenes, though not all are story relevant, all have cutscenes you can unlock that are meant to be funny. Though the story mode is pretty funny on its own, any game where the plot features racing the god of death is bound to be good. Though there are some things to know are that many of the stats are inaccurate, Dai Goroh may appear to have the same stats as John Tanaka and Doctor Stewart but the three are drastically different, with Dai Goroh being the worst racer in this game. The game also has a pretty high skill floor so I recommend getting experienced with other racing games first. Overall this is one of the most fun racing games I have played and I definitely recommend it.
