The Nouvel Boys Varsity Tennis Team are starting off their 2023 season strong with a 7-1 away match victory against Flint Powers Catholic High School. They also defeated Bay City Central High School which gives the Panthers a current 2-0 record. This is a very good start for the season, especially as the boys are coming off of a successful 2022 season in which they earned back-to-back Regional Championships titles and Tri-Valley Conference Championships titles. The Panthers also made it to the Division 4 state finals where they earned 4 team tournament points and they also tied for the eighteenth placed team in the state. After a successful 2022 season, and under the lead of head coach Scott Symmons (who celebrated his 200th win last season), the Panthers were ready to get back on the courts and were motivated and excited for what was to come up for the 2023 season. They plan to use the success they had from the 2021 and 2022 seasons as a motivational source. When asked about what the team’s goals are for the upcoming season, #2 singles player, Brady Vance (Junior) said, “Our goal is to win regionals for the third year in a row, and hopefully go undefeated along the way.”

With the Panthers having already won their first two matches of the season, it shows that they’re already on a roll, working to achieve that goal. When asked about how the first two games of the season went, Brady Vance also stated, “We’ve pretty much dominated so far. We swept Bay City Central in our first match, and beat Flint Powers 7-1. Our next match is against Bay City John Glenn, who should be our toughest match yet.” Contributing to the team’s early season success is a stellar top 12 group for both singles and doubles players. One singles is Giorgio Fabiano (Senior), two singles is Brady Vance (Junior), three singles is Jayden Lucas (Junior), and four singles is Cooper Swackhamer (Senior). One doubles is Ty Iamurri (Sophomore) & Charlie Thiel (Freshman), two doubles is Reece Kenny (Senior) & Charlie Groya (Freshman), three doubles is Owen Tunney (Sophomore) & Conrad Wardin (Sophomore), and four doubles is Nathan Zeleniuk (Sophomore) & Carlos Casarez (Freshman).

Their next match will be at Home (White Pine Middle School) against Bay City John Glenn High School on Tuesday, August 29 at 4 P.M. They also have a Tri coming up that will be in Midland on Wednesday August 30 that will start at 3 P.M.
