Senior Andy Wagner has been up to some serious science awesomeness.

This weekend, the Flint Regional Science Fair was held, with more than 300 high school students competing. Wagner won 1st place, $500, a full ride scholarship to the University of Michigan Flint, $3,000 to Kettering, a City of Flint Mayor award, Naval Research Science award, Richo Sustainable Development award and the Mott Community College Technology award.
Andy and his sister Olivia (a Sophomore ay Midland Dow) are finalists for the Regeneron International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF). This year, ISEF will be held in Texas and all expenses for the week are paid for. ISEF is the largest pre-college science competition in the world.

Their project was about the production of hydrogen and oxygen from water in a dry cell to power an internal combustion engine. He found out that enough hydrogen and oxygen can be made to start the engine.

Andy’s first place Regional level finish this year follows second place finish and an appearance last year at ISEF.

Other Nouvel students recognized for their work at the event include:

Sophomores, Sarah Moore, Ta’Najah Farris and Veronica Gross, placing 5th with $300 and won the Mott Community College Technology award. Senior, Jessenia Olascuaga placing 6th with $200, she also won the Bosch “We Set the Pace” award and the Mott Community College Technology award. Junior, Riley Mattheis received an honorable mention and received the Bosch “Invented for Tomorrow” award.
Sophomore, Camden Kaul, received an honorable mention and won the Mott Community College Technology award.
Said Advisor, Ms. Wagner shared, “It was a pleasure to work with each of these students over the past few months. All the work was done after school hours, we all really got to know each other and learned so much! With the exception of Andrew, the rest of the Nouvel students have never participated in a science fair at this level. I am extremely proud of them for earning these awards and the hard work shown. Every single Nouvel student left the fair with an award. I cannot wait to see what their future has in store.”
