Last week, January 30 through February 3, Nouvel celebrated Catholic Schools Week. The week consisted of all kinds of themed days as well as different activities. Here is a recap of what happened during that week.

Monday- Monday’s theme was “I have called you by name.” Students could dress as anything that started with the first letter of their name. In addition, Nouvel hosted their annual open house that night where new families and students could learn more about the school and what it has to offer.

Tuesday- Tuesday’s theme was “Leave everything and follow me.” Students got to wear comfy clothes and bring anything but a backpack! Some of the “backpacks” for that day included strollers, kiddie cars, tote bags, and someone even brought a mini fridge.

Wednesday- Wednesday’s theme was “Clothed in the Spirit.” Students got to wear dress clothes and attend. During mass, the changing of the honor guard occurred where senior honor guard members handed their positions down to the new junior honor guard members.

Thursday- Thursday’s theme was “Give with a joyful spirit.” Students wore jerseys or some type of sports team shirt. In the morning, the Powderbuff, or boys volleyball, games occurred. During the games, students could donate money to their class charities to take players off the opposing team, add points to their score, or sub in a teacher for their team. These were the charities that the classes donated to: CAN Council (Freshman), Partnership Center (Sophomores), Underground Railroad (Juniors), and the Emmaus House (Seniors). In all, the classes raised $1600 for the charities. In the first Powderbuff game, the Freshman boys played the Sophomore boys and won. In the second game, the Junior boys played the Senior boys. It was a close game and the Seniors won by two points, but in the end, the Juniors donated more money and got extra points that led them to victory. In the final game, the Junior boys played the Freshmen boys and won. There was also an exhibition game where the Junior boys got to play the Girls Varsity Volleyball team, but the boys lost. After the Powderbuff game, the Amazing Race happened, and the juniors took the victory in that as well. To end the day, a band called JAM came to perform.

Friday- Friday’s theme was “Bring down the Holy Spirit.” It was an all out spirit day and the Catholic Quiz Bowl happened. There were four different teams of Nouvel students competing against each other. In the end, the 10th grade team known as the 10 plagues won. The members of this team included Zeke Boyd, John Budd, Rodney Iamuri, and Aidan Pinkerton.
