The National Honor Society is always busy planning events and serving the Nouvel community. They just put on the Sadie Hawkin’s Dance for Valentine’s Day.  Usually, when NHS plans an event like this, one of the officers will lead a committee that organizes, shops for, and decorates the cafeteria. The dance was a huge success, and since it was the day before Valentine’s day, featured information on this year’s SADD theme which is Healthy Relationships.

They meet the first Wednesday of every month at 7:15am in the PAC. In order to help out and get involved with these things, sophomores must apply for NHS and get several letters of recommendation.  The current sophomores are going through this process right now, all materials are due by March 9 to Mr. Bartels. Do not be late! You will hear back in early April if you were accepted or not. Induction is set for April 21, 2016 and all current members as well as the new inductees are required to be there!  Being a part of NHS is a great way to get involved around Nouvel, and be recognized for your academic and service achievements.

In addition, NHS sponsor two blood drives a year, host occasional babysitting nights, and take care of recycling for teachers every Thursday. Recycling only takes about fifteen minutes after school and helps our teachers a lot. The bags are always by the recycle bins which are located by the choir room. First floor, offices, athletic offices, copy room, Spanish rooms, second and third floors all need to be covered each week. While this is a big job for NHs, they are always looking for new service project ideas so do not be shy. Lastly, the new water bottle fountains installed on the first floor was a gift to the school from NHS members. Make sure to try it out!
