Winter Sports Preview

As fall sports wrap up, attention turns to the winter sports teams. Here is a preview of each team and what to expect from them this season. Good luck to all teams competing this winter!

Girls Basketball: The Lady Panthers are back and have some unfinished business. The varsity team has reached the Breslin 2 of the last 3 years, winning the state championship in 2014. They expect nothing less than that this year, led by seniors Laurel Jacqmain, Maddie Graham, and Mallory Benkert.

Pom Pon: The Varsity Pom Pon squad is excited for the competitive season this winter, hoping for another state title. They have won two state championships in the last  three years. The team is led by a great group of seniors, having great leadership from all six of them.

Wrestling: The boys wrestling team is back in the gym working hard. The team is lead by seniors Joe Moskal, Kane Bourbina, Eric Gosen,and first year wrestler Jacob Gray. There are many young wrestlers who look to contribute to the team this year.

Boys Basketball: The boys are welcoming a new coach this year, Nouvel alumni Coach Mike Kessler. Coach Kessler was the point guard on the boys state runner up team in 2007. The team was young last year staring all juniors, and they are all returning and adding one senior in Blake Heinz. They are excited for the season setting high standards for the year.

Hockey: The FNV Griffins are preparing for the season ahead with great excitement. The team is combined wwith players from Nouvel, Valley Lutheran, and Freeland. The Nouvel players are Robi Stuart, Jack Brennan, Jordan Taffel, Ricky Koester, Sean Nowosatka, and Kenny Kujawa. The Griffins home games are at the Saginaw Bay Ice Arena and games are always a pleasure to watch.
