After Gov. Whitmer’s announcement on that all fall sports were officially on for 2020, many members of the soccer team have expressed their excitement for their season. Varsity captain Graham Wolinski ’22 told the Panther Print, ” I am extremely happy that Gov. Whitmer allowed my teammates and I to play, we will not take our season for granted and play our hardest all the time.”
The MHSAA has unveiled many new rules for the 2020 soccer season due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Masks are required at all times, even during competition. The pregame conference is now limited to the officials, the head coach of each team, and a single captain from each team meet at center field. They must maintain social distancing guidelines. Ball holders must social distance and bench players on each team should be social distancing as well as subs. Scorers at the officials table should social distance. Finally, you are now allowed to wear gloves, long sleeves, and even long pants during competition, but are not required. Each member of each soccer team is allowed two spectators; all other fans are prohibited.
Because of the limited number of spectators allowed, the MHSAA is allowing third-party entities to live stream high school sporting events for the first time. Stay on the lookout for Nouvel soccer games being live streamed online or even on the radio or television. Despite these restrictions and changes, the soccer team is still incredibly grateful to have their season, and so is the NCC community.
The NCC soccer team has a record of 3-2 with there most recent win coming against Standish who they beat 2-0. The leading scorers are Parker Thiel with 3 goals and Jordan Osmond with two goals. They also played in a tournament in Oscoda and came in second with a record of 2-1. Congrats to our soccer team on a great start to their season!
