As the 2014-2015 school year comes to an end we have many things to look forward to in the years to come at Nouvel and Nouvel Elementary.

1) SACS will be served for the 2015‐2016 school year by the Brighton Area Schools to provide teaching support for all non‐core subject areas. These areas include Art, Language, Computers, Business, Music, Advanced Placement Classes, Accounting, Media, Physical Education and other academic offerings not considered essential for graduation. This arrangement with Brighton Area Schools will allow us to expand our academic offerings and gain teaching support at no cost to SACS. It will also provide our students with an opportunity to access the Michigan Virtual University catalog of online classes at no cost to SACS.

2) Nouvel has made application to enter into the Tri-valley League Conference (TVC) for athletics and it has been accepted. We are waiting for placement in one of three divisions of the league and we will be notified in June. Once finalized, the entry into the league will take effect for the 2016‐17 school year. Athletic director Mike Boyd says there will be many benefits from entering into this league.

3) The financial position of SACS is significantly improved and stable. The financial projection for the district is positive and the potential for future reinvestment in academic programing, teacher development and other needs of the district is very good.

4) Sr. Ann reported on a strategic plan for NCCE focusing on four main areas:

1 – Catholic Identity

  • Increase proper social media usage
  • Attend more retreats
  • Reach out to supporting parishes and create more family faith experiences

2 – Marketing

  • Create liaison in parishes to talk up our great school
  • Focus on pre-school to build future growth
  • Create a committee to welcome new families

3 – School Climate

  • Focus on self-esteem and relationships (anti-bullying)
  • Establish adult community functions

4 – Academics

  • Focus on strong curriculum (engineering, heavy spanish)
  • Create learning communities with staff
  • Have summer programs
  • Mobile lab

Tuition Increases for Saginaw Area Catholic Schools

With the help of Dr. Prime and the staff in the SACS office, we were able to compile the information for tuition in the next years. For the beginning of the 2015/2016 school year here at Nouvel Catholic Central (NCC) and Nouvel Catholic Central Elementary (NCCE) there will be a slight increase in tuition. Many factors have contributed to this raise, like: reducing the burden on parish assessments, increased expenses, and not many tuition raises in the past. Full tuition will be $2,250 for a half day in Young Fives, $5,000 for the full day in Young Fives through the Eighth grade, and full $7,000 for High School (there is still the ability to pay tuition based on a percentage of income (AGI) or a minimum of $2,250 depending on which one is higher). This is an increase of AGI from 6% to 6.5% for one student, 6.5% to 7.0% for two, and 7% to 7.5% for three or more students. Minimal tuition increase was $750, from $1,500 to $2,250 per student.

The tuition stated above is for the students who are in families practicing in the Catholic Church. The Churches that are included in this tuition rate that the family would have to be a member at are: Cathedral of Mary of the Assumption, Christ the Good Shepherd, Holy Family, Holy Spirit, St. Agnes, St. Francis de Sales, St. Francis of Assisi, St. John Paul II, St. John Vianney, St. Joseph, SS Peter and Paul, St. Stephen, and St. Thomas Aquinas. If one is not a practicing Catholic family, or if one is a non-Catholic, their tuition goes up an extra $500. Total tuition for the non-practicing or non-Catholic is 42,750 for half day in Young Fives, $5,500 for the full day in Young Fives through the Eigth grade, and $7,500 for High School. Like previously, employees of the Catholic Schools in Saginaw are given a $1,000 discount on tuition. Although families are experiencing yet another tuition raise, it has to be done and for good reason. Still, all families were eligible for financial aid as long as their paperwork was in by March 25 and the students are registered.
