Over the summer, senior Philip Rangitsch completed his Eagle Scout project by renovating the theatre dressing rooms. If you did not have a chance to see them before it was redone, they were quite horrendous. It was dirty, messy, and honestly, somewhat scary down there. Screeching yells from ghost Betty would haunt those down there alone. Now that it is refurbished, Betty seems quite pleased with her new environment. With the help of many student volunteers, Philip and friends, such as seniors Julia Themm and Sarah Schultz, were able to sort through all of the clothes down there. There were numerous amounts of unused, old clothing that he was able to donate to Salvation Army. After clothes were sorted through, all of the props that had just been lying around taking up spaced were moved and organized into another room.

The next step was to wash down the walls that were encrusted in years of dust build up. This task was the least favorite of the female volunteers. Next came the fun part. With help from the fashionable sense of his female friends, Philip decided on the perfect colors to paint the halls and both the boys and girls rooms. This took a few days but the time put into delicate painting worked well as it now looks beautiful.

Philip’s next task was to build cubbies for both rooms to help Nouvel’s actors to organize during the chaotic changing times during the plays. One of the most noticeable changes down there is that new lights were put in. Before, it was very dim down there and now the rooms are bright and shining just like the students and staff here at Nouvel. All of this hard work was spread throughout the months of June and July. Philip was very thankful for his friends and family who helped him out and supported his project. All volunteers had a very enjoyable time. Overall, Philip and friends completed over 500 service hours! What better way to spend summer than giving back to your school? Congrats to Philip on completing his project and special thanks to everyone else who helped out. If you get a chance, come down and check it out by helping out with the two upcoming plays at Nouvel!
