September: Fun Facts of 2024!

September has been known for many things as the start to school or the month before Halloween. However, there are many things about September that gets rarely talked about, but you should know. It is the ninth month in the twelve month calendar as it gives a start to fall on September 1st. Six fun facts that are interesting, but intriguing to know about the month September!

1. Meaning/Origin of September, Septum is an ancient roman word that means 7, which is weird because September is the 9th month of the year. Ancient romans believed that September was the 7th month, but over time September became the 9th month

2. September’s Moon: The September harvest moon is the fullest moon of the year. The moon looks so big and red. The harvest is the symbol that it’s time to harvest crops before winter.

3. Birthstone of September: The birthstone for September is sapphire. Ancient Persians believed the earth rested on a giant sapphire, which made the sky blue. The reason sapphire was chosen to be in September was because sapphires were more common to find in September. That is what the sapphire stone represents September

4. Our Lady of Sorrows, it is a memorial celebrated by the Church every September on the 15th. As the Church honors the sorrows that Mary has went through during the twelfth century. The name, “Our Lady of Sorrows,” was given to Mary as she was enduring suffering with Christ during his passion. Showing how Mary has endured so much sorrows, that it is honored on September for all she did for us.

5. Fall Sports comes out as the seasons change; however, different sports start coming out too. This includes the start of sports like, football, cross country, volleyball, soccer, tennis, and many others! While most of these sports are sometimes indoors, it serves as a good run as it is similar to winter sports, but in warmer weather.

6. Most Populated Birthdays: September is known for being the first of Autumn, but there is a special reason for being so liked. As many birthdays in America are on September for the majority of people out there! Typically the most birthdays on September is September 9th! While September 19th and September 12th come in close with the most birthdays this month!
