Saginaw Township broke ground on the Wieneke construction project July 7.   The projected end date of September 30 has come and gone and  Wieneke is still cut down to one-way traffic in order to accommodate the final stages of the work.

Once completed, drivers will enjoy widened roads on the half-mile of Wieneke between Weiss and Shattuck as well as widened roads on a shorter length of Shattuck between Wieneke and Lawndale.  In total, under 1 mile of roadway will be affected but a turn lane is being added on the stretch of Wieneke.

The community of Saginaw, and especially Nouvel, has been frustrated by the inconvenience of the Wieneke construction all through summer and into fall.  Residents that live on Wieneke have had trouble navigating the one way, seen increased traffic withing their neighborhoods and at one point, had to park their cars in the front Nouvel parking lot. NCC was forced to reschedule the Homecoming festivities and ultimately change the parade route.  Assistant Principal Mr. Dave Szymanowski commented that, “They were very cooperative in helping to reroute the parade”.

The construction continues at the intersection of Shattuck and Wieneke and traffic is still limited to one direction until it is completed. According to the Saginaw County Road Commission website, the project is three weeks behind schedule. There is currently no updated completion date.
