MHSAA Approves NIL
January 17, 2026 the Michigan Highschool Sports association approved highschool athletes participation In NIL. This means that student athletes can now earn money based on their name, image, and likeness. With this new policy, student athletes can now participate in activities like photo and autograph sessions, clothing sales, and many more options. NIL was previously approved by the NCAA and had a drastic impact on how schools were able to recruit players and how players chose what school they would attend. Michigan also marks the 46th state to approve NIL making them one of the last to approve it. Though high schools can’t pay schools directly, it’s very likely that this will shape the way kids choose their high school. When asked about his potential NIL earnings, “I’ll be going on strike until I receive some cash.”
