{"id":7160,"date":"2015-09-14T11:29:18","date_gmt":"2015-09-14T15:29:18","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/nccpantherprint.com\/home\/?p=7160"},"modified":"2015-09-14T14:43:09","modified_gmt":"2015-09-14T18:43:09","slug":"fall-sports-updates-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/nccpantherprint.com\/home\/2015\/09\/14\/fall-sports-updates-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Fall Sports Updates"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>Swimming<\/h2>\n<p>Morgan Velez &#8217;16<\/p>\n<p><em>Staff Writer<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Back-to-school means back to fall sports as well!\u00a0 For the\u00a0Nouvel Girl&#8217;s Swim Team, this meant\u00a0begining their season mid-August and practicing for the fall season ever since.\u00a0 The girls meet regularly at Heritage High School their &#8216;home&#8217; pool.\u00a0 They are working hard with their coach, Coach Beno Sharper, as well as with one another in order to perform well at their events.\u00a0 In the second meet which was September 8, the girls lost to Oscoda. \u00a0In addition, \u00a0the girls swam their most recent meet last Thursday (9\/10) against Heritage and Flint Powers at Heritage High School and unfortunatley lost. \u00a0The season is young!<\/p>\n<p>On the team are students from both Nouvel and SASA.\u00a0 The Nouvel seniors are Claire Krajkowski, Mariah Lalonde, and Zoila Ontiveros.\u00a0\u00a0Claire Krajkowski has commented that &#8220;many swimmers have improved&#8221; and the seniors are all hopeful that they will have a successful remainder of their season until swim ends sometime in October.<\/p>\n<p>Soccer<\/p>\n<p>David Trudell &#8217;16<\/p>\n<p><em>Staff Writer<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The 2015 boys&#8217; varsity soccer team led by coach Ellis kicked off their season on August 21, 2015 taking on the dragons of SASA. They are a very young team with no seniors, however, have many new comers with the ambition to learn the game and continue to get better. The team is lead by the three junior captains Will Jarema, Palo Diola, and Garret Marino.\u00a0So far this year they have taken on SASA, John Glen, Ithaca, Elk Rapids, Carmen- Ainsworth, Alma, and Garber. Both Jonah wolinski and Bailey Bivins have scored one goal a piece this year. Unfortunately, they have yet to win a game but they continue to grow and improve as a team. Sophomore Will Jarema says &#8220;We have been a bit down the first handful of games but i believe we will get through it as we continue to improve overall as a team&#8221;. The boys have upcoming home games Semptember 11th and 18th versus BC Western and Mt. Pleasant. Come out and support the boys!<\/p>\n<h2>Golf<\/h2>\n<p>Megan St. Pierre &#8217;16<\/p>\n<p><em>Staff Writer<\/em><\/p>\n<p>This year, the Nouvel golf team is more\u00a0determined and focused than ever working on their road to states.\u00a0 &#8220;We are doing much better than our previous season and are improving every day,&#8221;\u00a0says senior golfer, Maya Brennan.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Sophomores Lorissa Butko and Sierra\u00a0Reitz have continued to be at the top of their game and the team has high hopes for their success at states.\u00a0 At the Garber tournament on Tuesday September 1, the girls placed second out of three teams, beating\u00a0John Glenn, but\u00a0losing to Garber by only two strokes.\u00a0 Thursday, September 3, the team was ready to win an invite at Frankenmuth, but unfortunately\u00a0around the sixth hole the game got rained out and the girls were unable to continue.\u00a0 Coach Deb Yats is preparing the girls for their next match on Monday at Valley Lutheran&#8217;s golf course where they look forward to\u00a0get another win.<\/p>\n<h2>Cross Country<\/h2>\n<p>Jack Stuart &#8217;16<\/p>\n<p><em>Staff Writer<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Nouvel&#8217;s cross country team is off to a strong start this season. The team has had four meets so far this year. Both Meghan Matekel and Matt Bartels have received medals this year during their meets. In the teams last meet on Wednesday, 9\/9, at the Marauder Invite, Donovan Gomez ran his season best with a time of 19:18. As each meet goes by, everyone on the team is improving their times. Their next meet is Thursday, 9\/17, at Chesaning. The team is looking to build on their strong start this season. Good luck to the cross country team!<\/p>\n<h2>Volleyball<\/h2>\n<p>Meghan Matekel 16\u2019<\/p>\n<p><em>Staff Writer<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The girls\u2019 volleyball team has started off with an outstanding season. Chris Klein is the new volleyball coach, previously playing for herself SVSU. Senior Erica Vanderhaar is their new captain, returning as a\u00a02 year starter.\u00a0The volleyball teams\u2019 current record is 11-4-4 which is a great start. Wednesday Sept 7th they crushed Hemlock, which is a great victory. They also just had a quad on Wednesday against Freeland, Caro, and Carrolton beating all 3 schools! Great work lady panthers! Keep up the good work and good luck on the rest of the season.<\/p>\n<h2>Football<\/h2>\n<p>Patrick Shabluk 16&#8242;<\/p>\n<p><em>Staff Writer<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The football team had a rough start this year, losing their opener 21-48 to New Lothrop. They won their second game on a forfeit from Sarnia St. Patricks due to a labor strike by their teachers. In week three, the Panthers won their home opener against Mount Pleasant Sacred Heart 30-18 with a kick return touchdown from Jason Russel &#8217;16, two touchdowns from Cameron Fluder &#8217;16 and a pick six interception from Alex Dwan &#8217;17.
