{"id":5333,"date":"2014-05-21T13:11:33","date_gmt":"2014-05-21T17:11:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/nccpantherprint.com\/home\/?p=5333"},"modified":"2014-05-29T13:14:37","modified_gmt":"2014-05-29T17:14:37","slug":"seniority","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/nccpantherprint.com\/home\/2014\/05\/21\/seniority\/","title":{"rendered":"Seniority"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Dylan Schnepf \u201914,<\/p>\n<p>Staff Writer<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Once upon a time I was a goony, metal-mouthed, mangled mess.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Then I got my braces off and the gooniness only slightly subsided.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">I have definitely seen an evolution, in my worldview, my friend group and ability to make it up as I go.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Also, appropriately juxtaposed with the above mentioned, I have seen a devolution of my inclination to panic, naivety, and of course my R.E.M. sleep.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">I am outwardly a polarizing-ly different person since I first sported a paw-printed polo.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">I have grown, physically, emotionally, spiritually, economically, stylistically, and other adverbs.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">I feel like Dorothy after she was concussed by the violent winds of the tornado:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Everything is colorful and I\u2019m surrounded by dancing little people with high voices<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Just kidding Freshmen, but seriously.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">All I\u2019m saying is that stuff was done and fun was had since I entered the gym doors.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">I entered this edifice of education an ecstatically eager, elementary ex-student.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">It is clich\u00e9 to say that these four years fly by, but it is true<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">I feel like Marty McFly<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Now that I must say so long, farewell, au wiedersehen, goodbye, it\u2019s getting so real it\u2019s unreal<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">It is truly bittersweet to no longer wander the halls of this school with a feigned awareness<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">But it is time to breathe the last breath of that crisp Nouvel air<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Now I must leave and heave a sigh and say goodbye,<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">goodbye.<\/p>\n<p>Towards the end of your secondary tenure, your life becomes an interrogation.<\/p>\n<p>Questions befall you at every corner.<\/p>\n<p>Conversations start with: \u201cOh you\u2019re a senior?\u201d Followed by: \u201cWhat are you doing for college?\u201d and \u201cWhat do you wanna be?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>You recite your developed response, disclaimer and all, which ends up sounding like: \u201cWell, I\u2019m not really sure yet, but I plan to\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n<p>You also have to deal with the dreadful farewells from teachers that may or may not sound sorta like: \u201c Oh golly gee, you\u2019ve sure blossomed into a beautiful butterfly since I first had you.\u201d Or maybe \u201cHey, just between you and me, you were my favorite student *winky face*\u201d Or even: \u201cWhat is the square root of negative one?\u201d\u2014wait, Math, how did you get in my article? And as for the question, um I don\u2019t know imaginary?\u2014\u201cJust \u00a0like your dreams.\u201d :\u2019-(<\/p>\n<p>Finally, you\u2019re the ultimate round of awkward conversation involves your parents\/legal guardians\/older relatives which sounds something like \u201cIt\u2019s so gosh darn hard for you kids these days, with the economy the way it is. I remember when gas was a nickel\u2026\u201d and then they proceed to dive into a seemingly irrelevant story about the \u201cuninteresting\u201d past, which you may not appreciate the true value of until you yourself reach the mountain top.<\/p>\n<p>In the end, here\u2019s what really matters. A great man just said \u201clife can be planned, but not predicted.\u201d I am probably not the best person to give out advice on pretty much anything, but I can share my feelings, and you can decide what sticks with you. You have to bock out all the excess noise and listen to your heart.. I know (This is starting to sound like a Disney song, but the point is that You are on now on your way to be the You you\u2019re supposed to be. You\u2019re legally an adult, or at least almost an adult, which means that new responsibilities, new obstacles, and new opportunities. But also New Adventures! Like taxes and home ownership!
