For those who are unfamiliar with Down Syndrome, it is a genetic disorder where there is an error in cell division resulting in 3 copies of chromosome 21. On this day, a common way of showing support and awareness for those who have Down Syndrome is by wearing crazy or mismatched socks. With this in mind, PAWS has organized the &#8220;Socks for Your PAWS&#8221; event so that Nouvel could also participate in this day.<\/p>\n<p>While wearing mismatched socks may seem random when talking about Down Syndrome, there is a reason why mismatched socks are worn on this day. It has been said that socks look a lot like chromosomes and when actually looking at the karyotype (the number and visual display of chromosomes in a cell) of someone with Down Syndrome, it looks very similar to mismatched socks. For this reason, it has become a widespread tradition to wear mismatched socks on World Down Syndrome Day!
